Assalamulaikum and Salam Aidilfitri to my dearest readers (if there's still any lah haha). Nope today I won't be posting about either Aidilfitri or even my proposal. I've been meaning to write about this long time ago and I guess I finally found the best time to sit and talk about it. Cehh bunyi macam serius sangat je kan haha.
When my lecturer was being asked "Are you a feminist?" she replied "No. The only reason why we are being feminist is because we don't understand the role of a woman." At first I was puzzled about what she meant by "Don't understand the role of a woman." Which part of 'role' do we not understand? Of course a woman is a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, a teacher, an engineer, or just anyone. So why was she saying that as if we couldn't differentiate between a male and a female? It was a very simple answer but it really got me thinking. I took literature during my second semester and my Literature lecturer was very interested when it comes to discrimination against women, feminism or whatever related to women's right. He seemed to support the idea of feminism and we didn't even know why.
And then I finally understand, we talk about feminism and women's right but we don't even try to understand, what is our right as a woman? For example, futsal. I'm sorry if I offend you guys but a field is not a place for a woman. Instead of running and kicking the ball, shouting and pushing around and act like a guy, is that game suitable for women? I don't think so. I disagree because that's not how a woman is supposed to act. So if by not being allowed to join futsal or football because of the gender issue and lead women to start instilling sexism in arguing, that's plain stupid. Arguing over something that isn't supposed to be argued, how is that valid?
Another thing about sexism is when it comes to relationship. Honestly, as a woman, I really hate the phrase "Lelaki semua sama." I'm sorry, I detest it because obviously, your boyfriend is nothing compared to my father and by saying that, I don't think you're implying to your male family members so why on earth are you saying it? For me, using the phrase "Lelaki semua sama" is either your way to escape yourself from feeling guilty over or being accused as the cause of the broken relationship, or maybe because you have dated all the boys in this world. Fine, if a guy left you, have another girl behind your back, mistreated you. abusive, a criminal, a douchebag or whatever, that guy has nothing to do with other guys and has no power in influencing others to be like him. So assuming that all guys are the same because of the shit you've been through with that one particular guy is a very judgmental act and not fair. If it's over, get up, stand straight and walk away.
Talking about gender equality; "Lelaki duduk goyang kaki, perempuan duduk dapur masak." I'm not bragging but both of my parents are good cooks. Regardless of their roles as a husband who's in charge of the family financial and a wife who's in charge in family upbringing, cooking is not defined as an act done by those who carry the XX chromosomes, and driving is not only for those with XY chromosomes. Same goes to handling car issues. Being a female doesn't give you the privilege of not knowing a thing about your car. There are huge differences between gender roles and general knowledge. Cooking, doing house chores and driving; those are general knowledge and can be done by both gender. I don't see a woman driving or a guy washing clothes as a problem or a crime.
To put it into words, I'm not saying that I hate feminist or I detest misogynist. I disagree with sexism. Because if you're going to start a fight about who's better, eventually, no one's gonna win.
